The first French-language platform for metabolic health
French Metabolic Initiative
Moving beyond simplified approaches to understand the biological mechanisms that govern energy balance. A modern, scientific, integrative and functional approach to metabolic health.
“Metabolic medicine is not about counting calories. It is about understanding the biology that regulates them.”Dr Anne Lucas, PharmD
Three pillars
Structuring metabolic medicine
The French Metabolic Initiative is built around three complementary pillars, from training healthcare professionals through to clinical application.
Train
French Metabolic Academy
An advanced training programme for healthcare professionals who want to develop expertise in metabolic health. First intake in September 2026.

French Metabolic Summit
The French-language scientific congress dedicated to metabolic health, with international speakers. First edition in Paris, on 27 and 28 March 2027.

French Metabolic Clinic
The practical hub and directory of practitioners trained in the metabolic approach, with a professional community. Opening planned for 2027.

Beyond a simple calorie deficit
The management of overweight and metabolic disorders still relies largely on a simplified view of metabolism, the CICO theory (Calories In / Calories Out). Yet there is a fundamental difference between imposing a calorie deficit and restoring the physiological mechanisms that naturally regulate energy balance.
Metabolic regulation actually depends on a complex interaction between several physiological systems:
- Metabolic hormones
- Sex hormones
- Neurotransmitters
- The gut microbiota
- Thyroid function
- Circadian rhythms
- Muscle mass and physical activity
Understanding these interactions is now essential to durably improve the prevention and management of metabolic disorders.
The nature of nutrients
Not all calories have the same metabolic impact
The idea that all calories produce the same biological effect is now widely challenged by scientific research. The nature of nutrients profoundly influences the whole of our physiological systems.
Diet, then, cannot be reduced to a simple quantity of energy: it forms a set of biological signals that interact with the body. Understanding these mechanisms allows nutrition and metabolic health to be approached from a far more precise, scientific, physiological and functional angle.
The nature of nutrients profoundly influences
- Hormonal regulation
- Hunger and satiety circuits
- The way the body uses nutrients
- Energy expenditure
- Overall metabolic balance
A mission
Bringing metabolic health to the fore
The French Metabolic Initiative aims to help build a genuine scientific movement dedicated to metabolic health across the French-speaking world, drawing on the collaboration of internationally recognised experts in the field of metabolism.
Its objective: fostering a clinical and functional approach founded on three complementary pillars.
- Physiology
- Metabolic biochemistry
- Analysis of pathophysiological mechanisms
The first intake of the French Metabolic Academy is planned for September 2026, and the first edition of the French Metabolic Summit for March 2027.
The metabolic emergency
One of the greatest public health challenges
Metabolic diseases are advancing everywhere. In France, the figures are alarming, and metabolic syndrome remains significantly under-diagnosed.
30%
of adults are overweight
17%
live with obesity
4.3 million
people are being treated for diabetes
25%
of adults have metabolic syndrome
These figures do not reflect a lack of patient motivation: above all, they reveal the limits of the approaches currently on offer for understanding and treating metabolic disorders. Faced with this reality, a shift in paradigm becomes necessary.

Recognised expertise
Led by Dr Anne Lucas, PharmD
A doctor of pharmacy specialising in micronutrition and an expert in metabolic health, she has devoted her work for over fifteen years to studying the physiological and biochemical mechanisms involved in overweight, obesity and metabolic disorders.
- Member of the teaching committee of the DIUE MAPS, Université Paris Cité
- Has trained several hundred healthcare professionals
- Speaker and scientific consultant for various laboratories
- Creator of the La Micronutrition 2.0 concept
The manifesto
Join the French Metabolic Initiative
Joining the French Metabolic Initiative means taking part in the evolution of how metabolic disorders are understood and managed.
It means learning to analyse the pathophysiological mechanisms that regulate metabolic health.
It means developing a clinical approach grounded in physiology rather than in simplified models.
It means putting your knowledge, expertise, thinking and clinical, functional practice to work, going well beyond a simple calorie calculation.
It means joining a community of professionals united by a shared ambition: to better understand human metabolism in order to durably improve the health of every individual facing a metabolic disorder.
It also means the opportunity to train with Dr Anne Lucas, PharmD, recognised by many healthcare professionals for the scientific rigour, precision and pedagogy of each of her sessions.
“More knowledge, better health.”Prof Benjamin Bikman
Because in medicine, as elsewhere, knowledge remains the first lever of change.
Our conviction: “Knowledge is power!”
Join the French Metabolic Academy
Around the world, understanding of metabolic diseases is advancing rapidly. The French Metabolic Academy is fully part of this momentum: take an active part in the metabolic health revolution.
